Job Description:
Working within self-contained scrum teams in an agile environment a Business Analyst will be responsible for understanding, defining, evolving and sharing software product requirements to model end user and customer needs and drive the next era of the Smallworld GIS software product platform for GE Energy.

Responsibilities:
- Support Product Managers in distilling business requirements from both internal and external customers to define product content and help formulate the product roadmap.
- Plan and execute the initiation phases of new releases of geospatial products that are both customer focused and the platform for our industry specific geospatial products.
- Provide domain expertise and leadership during product envisioning and planning activities.
- Develop user stories and acceptance criteria that provide a sufficiently detailed product definition for the development team to deliver against
- Manage the product backlog and assist in planning releases and iterations
- Engage with customers and users to research and determine the most valuable stories
- Provide the development team with customer-based subject matter expertise throughout the development lifecycle to validate design decisions
- Keep abreast of customers' IT environments and product configurations to provide input to architecture decisions
- Maintain an awareness of other product developments with the organization to ensure compatibility and interoperability
- Participate in reviews to ensure that technical solutions will meet customer requirements
- Work with Product Managers and other business analysts to develop a consistent set of standards for requirements gathering and documentation
- Interface with external organizations & supporting functions
- Develop customer/user business process and domain knowledge in order to make effective product implementation & prioritization decisions.

Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, GIS, Engineering or other degree with relevant experience. - Proven experience working at an intermediate to senior level in software development. - Must be focused on the delivery of customer value, in the form of executing software that meets the customer's needs - Must be able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff and management in both business and technical areas, with the ability to keep discussions at the appropriate level of abstraction - Proven experience working in GIS and/or Utilities domains. - Green Belt Certification (for GE employees only). Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Desired Characteristics:
- Significant proven experience developing requirements and performing business analysis for medium and large application development projects. Full software life cycle experience required.
- Experience in GIS and related technology, toolkits and applications.
- Experience in use and/or analysis of GIS applications for utilities
- Awareness and understanding of GE Smallworld product portfolio
- Understanding of software design and usability considerations.
- Experienced in developing user stories and associated analysis activities for software products.
- Exposure to agile development methodologies, e.g. Scrum.
- Possess excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and motivational skills, with the ability to move cleanly from theoretical to implementation thinking.
